Tico Cuisine is “de todo un poco” , a little from here and there which is part of our Tico heritage.
Costa Rican cuisine has pretty much remained the same for decades although the preparation has probably changed in most places with the use of modern utensils and kitchen appliances and yet most people here will agree that nothing beats a good meal prepared using a wood burning stove the old-fashioned way which gives a comfy home cooked feeling and flavor. Most Costa Rican cooking will include rice, beans, corn, vegetables, and some type of meat. A typical dish that showcases exactly this is the “Olla de Carne.” This traditional and well-loved soup dish contains well-cooked delicious meat, a variety of vegetables and is usually accompanied by a side of white rice and some tortillas. Another popular dish is “Arroz con Pollo” Costa Rican style rice with chicken which is delicious.
A wide variety of soups are popular such as sopa de Mondongo (Tripe), sopa de Albondigas (Meatball), sopa de Pollo (Chicken), and sopa Negra (Black Bean).
