OROSI COLONIAL CHURCH INTERIOR

The Colonial Church of Orosi also known as the Church of San Jos é de Orosi, is a Catholic Christian temple and parish located in the district of Orosi, belonging to the canton of Para í so de Cartago, in Costa Rica. It is one of the oldest buildings in the country, dating from the time of the Spanish Colony. The parish of San Jos é de Orosi was founded by Franciscan missionaries in the 18th century (1766), on the site of the Indian village of Orosi. Since 1920 it has been a historical-architectural heritage of Costa Rica, and in 1985, it was declared a National Monument. The town of Orosi is even older as it was a settlement inhabited by Huetar Indians, who occupied the Orosi Valley at the time of the arrival of the Europeans in the 16th century. This is the oldest church in Costa Rica still operating.
