Once we arrived we would always head to the same 2 story wooden hotel. The room and the furnishings were very basic but everything was very clean and tidy and the room was just used to sleep. The real excitement of El Puerto (the Port) was all outside with many restaurants, bars, shaved ice carts and many other vendors vigorously plying their wares. This was the early 1960 ´ s and this was the place to go for the Ticos from the Central Plateau and the train made it easy and fun to get there. We would always return on the last train back on Sunday and the next day would be a school day for me.
