PUNTARENAS holds a special place in my heart because I have so many pleasant childhood memories of this place. I remember from the age of 4 until 8 years, my mother would religiously take me to Puntarenas every weekend, but this was no ordinary trip to the beach. It started very early on Saturday morning when we would go and take a taxi to the train station to the Pacific and once we

boarded, the adventure began as the train would wind its way past small towns and an amazing view just past every curb. Added to that was the experience of choosing from the various items offered by local women at the various train stops on the way. They would come up to the train windows and offer us everything from small very sweet mangoes to deliciously cooked chicken.
