This beautiful small town, now a fast-growing city known as Tilar á n, was first known as La Cabra. This is because over the years, dozens of people from the Great Metropolitan Area and surrounding cities like the original capital of Costa Rica, the city of Cartago, began to populate this Guanacaste area, and the elders say that settlers brought their animals, goats and cattle to drink water in the river with the same name, La Cabra...which means "the goat".
