201 years of history: Annexation of the Nicoya District to Costa Rica. Every year, throughout the national territory and especially in the province of Guanacaste, the historic event that occurred in 1824 is celebrated, when a group of members of the town of Nicoya met in an Open Town Hall and solemnly declared their integration into the state of Costa Rica. The benefits of the Annexation gave Costa Rica: expansion of territory, cultural wealth, typical dances and music that make up the greatest folkloric representation, tourism development, gastronomy, agriculture and livestock.
