Isla del Coco (Cocos Island) National Park

Gissler decides after Mack's death, to travel to Costa Rica and Cocos Island, spending the rest of his life as the most prominent treasure hunter of all, even acting as Governor of Cocos Island from 1897 to 1906. After that, many more treasure hunters tried to find the hidden gold. In 1931, 3 castaways from San Diego, California, who lived on the island for 6 months, discovered the treasure cave, and hinted at the find in an article published in 1932 in American Magazine, entitled “Six Months on a Desert Island.” In November 1949, one of the castaways sent a letter to the Costa Rican government proposing a joint search for the cave, but it was ignored. Cocos Island National Park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 for its unparalleled natural beauty and rich biodiversity. The island is located 532 kilometers from Puntarenas, Costa Rica.

Located between parallels 530' and 534' and meridians 8710' and 876'. The turquoise blue water is extraordinarily clear and provides a great habitat for a wealth of marine life, making this island one of the most extraordinary places in the world for diving. It also has truly beautiful evergreen forests and numerous impressive waterfalls and was the inspiration for Isla Nublar (Jurassic Park). For visitors, there is an information center, ranger station, trails, signage, restrooms, drinking water, and several viewing points, but access is restricted to approved tourist charters. An excellent tour to the island is on the Okeanos Agressor II vessel which departs from Puntarenas offering 10-12 night tours that include diving 3-4 times a day and the experience of living on a well-equipped 122 foot luxury yacht designed to maximize your unforgettable adventure.
