We already know that the CCSS (compulsory public insurance) has a rather slow and sometimes poor service. For this reason, there are many people who choose to take out private insurance to have access to private hospitals in Costa Rica, where the services are much faster, the technology is better and the rooms are private. An example of health insurance for a 50-year-old adult has a yearly premium of approximately $1,500 US. The premiums will depend on age, plan and deductible.
