in Costa Rica 2024

There are several holidays in Costa Rica. Most are designated mandatory by the Labor Code. This means that no worker is obligated to work during these days unless they agree to do so and cannot be sanctioned in any way if they refuse to work those days. However, if they choose to go ahead and work those days then their pay is doubled for that day. You also cannot sign away in any agreement your right to those holidays according to article 11 of the Labor Code. Some Call Centers that have American (USA) clients will instead give their employees the day off on the legal holidays in the United States and pay their employees double for the legal Costa Rican holidays.
