Isla del Coco (Cocos Island) National Park
government of Costa Rica proposing a joint search for the cave but was ignored. Cocos Island national park was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997 for its unmatched natural beauty and rich biodiversity. The island is located 532 kilometers from Puntarenas, Costa Rica between parallels 530' and 534' and meridians 8710' and 876'. The blue-turquoise water is extraordinarily clear and makes a great habitat for an abundance of marine life, making this island one of the most extraordinary places in the world for diving. It also has truly beautiful evergreen forests and numerous impressive waterfalls and was the inspiration for Isla Nublar (Jurassic Park). For visitors, there is an information center, a park ranger’s station, trails, signage, restroom services, potable water and several lookout points but access is restricted to approved tourist charters. An excellent tour to the island is the Okeanos Agressor II which departs from Puntarenas offering 10 to 12 night tours which include diving 3 to 4 times a day and living in a well equipped, luxurious 122 foot yacht designed to maximize your unforgettable experience.
