The cost of a rental car can vary widely depending on the time of year that you visit and the type of car you choose but can be anywhere from USD 350 on upward with insurance. A 4x4 is not needed for this suggested itinerary at all. Restaurant and meal prices can vary from under 3500 Colones (under USD 7) if you eat at a local eatery like a Soda (name of small local food stands) on up, but will generally be equal to or less than in North America. You will go on to relax at one of the best hot springs in the area where you will revel in the cleansing and rejuvenating effects of the thermal waters, as well as an optional massage or other special treatment, if you choose, that must be reserved ahead of time to ensure availability. Here are some examples of tour prices so as to give you an idea of the budget you should plan on based on which tours you want to do as well as the level of hotels chosen, the cost to rent a car, the types of places you select to eat at for meals not included in your hotel stay or in your tours. A rental car is a great convenience but not an absolute necessity if you plan your activities accordingly so it comes down to what you have more of: time and patience or money. LOL. The Suggested Hotel ( Hotel Marala in Esterillos ) for the first 4 nights is a just remodeled boutique hotel that is just perfect location wise to be your home base for these tours. It is very close to all the hustle and bustle of Jacó and Playa Hermosa but is all by itself in Esterillos Beach right off the Coast Highway and only 15 minutes away. The room quality is excellent, and the food and drink are top shelf but yet the prices are very reasonable. For example, a room night for two persons with a Queen bed for a 2 night stay starts at just USD 107 + tax/night and that includes breakfast. If you want to upgrade to a King size bed with Ocean view, its USD 135 + tax/night and if you also want a balcony with that King size with Ocean view then its USD 150 + tax. The entire 3rd Floor comprises the Presidential Suite with a balcony with jacuzzi and awesome views. Sun-Thursday its USD 250 plus tax and breakfast is included. USD 270 on weekends. Prices will be higher in High Season (December-May).
