COSTA RICA HAPPENINGS
The Growing Presence of Electric Vehicles in Costa Rica
Around 2019 electric cars started to make serious initial inroads in Costa Rica. Currently, the country has nearly 360+ charging points for zero-emission cars, according to data from Asomove with Electromaps. To facilitate the location of these charging points, the Electromaps website and application allow the geographical location of each of these connectors, which are already distributed in the seven provinces of the country. This places Costa Rica in 4th place among Latin American countries surpassed only by the much larger countries of Brazil, Mexico and Chile. Private company chargers which are growing very fast are not included in these numbers. Semi-fast charging of an electric car takes between 1 and 3 hours, depending on the charger's power and the vehicle's battery capacity. In contrast, fast charging can take the car to 80% of its capacity in approximately 30 minutes. These fast-charging points, which use special direct current chargers with a power of 50kW, are commonly found at service stations. With a constantly growing infrastructure, Costa Rica continues its path towards more sustainable mobility, facilitating the use of electric vehicles and contributing to the reduction of emissions in the country.
With 98-100% renewable energy Costa Rica is ideal for E-Vehicles.
