COSTA RICA HAPPENINGS
May is the start of the low season in Tourism and generally represents a raise in the value of the dollar versus the colón exchange rate. We have seen a raise in the value of the Dollar during the last 30 days (April 22 to May 21st, 2024) after having seen the dollar reach a low of 498.11 CRC to 1 US Dollar on 04 Apr 2024 and is currently at $513.45. This is still a long way from its historic high exchange rate of 691.66 Colones for 1 US Dollar reached on June 24, 2022 but it should continue to go up in the coming months.
As of 2024, Costa Rica holds the title of the safest country in Latin America according to the Global Peace Index, ranking 1st in the region and 39th globally. This reflects Costa Rica’s longstanding reputation as a peaceful and stable nation, often regarded as a haven for travelers seeking both adventure and tranquility in Central America. It’s worth noting that safety can be a complex issue, and while indexes provide a general idea, personal experiences may vary. Always exercise caution and stay informed when traveling. Costa Rica while small in size, has no shortage of beautiful natural landmarks, being a volcano dotted, Caribbean, and Pacific-bounded territory, and fortunately for nature seekers, criminal occurrences are still within acceptable levels. An example of stability in a region plagued by political crises, police and army corruption, drug trafficking, and in some cases, authoritarian regimes. Costa Rica consistently appears as one of the safest countries to visit in Latin America
