G uanacaste is Costa Rica´s Northwest Province where some of the most beautiful sun-drenched scenery and adventures are located. This prov ince encompasses a variety of very desirable beach towns, world class resorts, deserted beaches, and an award-winning International Airport located and named after the inland town of Liberia, the capital city of Guanacaste and known as the ¨White City¨. Liberia is the hub from which you can reach the North Pacific beaches, head North to the border with Nicaragua just an hour away or explore Volcanoes and Mountains like the Rincon de la Vieja National Park and Volcano. You can also head to the Nicoya Peninsula from here as well. Liberia has grown quite a bit in the last decade and is a friendly, easygoing town with a variety of ac commodations and many gastronomical choices and even a lively nightlife can be found. It can be an interesting place to spend at least one night either on the way to or on the way back from the beaches. As to why it is called the White City, that is in reference to the fact that for many years its streets were covered by a whit ish powdery substance made from pumice stone, volcanic material, and pieces of quartz. As a visitor to the beautiful beaches of Guanacaste, you can fly directly into the Liberia International Airport or if you choose to land in San Jose at the Juan San tamaria International Airport it would be a 4-to-5-hour drive depending on which beach you are headed for. These are beaches known worldwide for offering stun ning natural beauty, unforgettable beaches, warm tropical climate, a large biodi versity, top notch surfing and of course, a friendly and welcoming population. This has made it the top area for Visitors to Costa Rica and therefore a great place to live or to invest in a vacation rental or a business. Guanacaste is also the home of Ad Astra (Latin for ¨to the stars¨) Rocket Company founded by Costa Rican Astro naut Dr. Franklin Chang-Diaz (a NASAAstronaut for 25 years and co-holder of the record for most times in space (7)! He is currently in the last stages of developing the VASIMR a plasma propulsion system for NASA which is expected to get us to Mars in the near future. Of all the Gold Coast beaches perhaps the most popular with Visitors are the com bined beaches of Tamarindo and Langosta which have a large variety of residen tial and vacation rental offerings as well as a myriad of restaurants and entertain ment and shopping to choose from. Another very popular although more laidback area are the beaches of Conchal and Flamingo with world Class Resorts, Golf, a new Marina and very upscale ocean view homes and condos. The third beach area that is extremely popular are the beaches and towns of Playas del Coco, Ocotal and Playa Hermosa. Several choices are found in this area for Scuba Div ing enthusiasts and of course all these area have a variety of accommodations, restaurants, nightlife, surfing, nature tours, sport fishing, horseback riding, ATV tours, shopping and of course the perfect beaches to work on that tan and watch yet another stunning sunset while sipping on your favorite drink…
